Showdown in Chinatown - Hallowbaloo Edition
Hallowbaloo Street Festival:
Saturday, October 29th
FREE Show!!
Pauahi Street (alongside the Arts at Marks Garage) - 6:30pm to 9:00pm
Take a theme, a few words of required dialogue and several required props. Feed it to hungry, ambitious filmmakers and give them a short time frame. The result? Showdown in Chinatown, a 6-year-running film festival and contest. For each event, producers are given the above guidelines and approximately 2 weeks to shoot, edit and screen wholly new and original shorts (7 minutes or less). Ranging from hilarious to visually mesmerizing films, Showdown's reputation draws all kinds of filmmakers, from first-time producers and actors to veterans who've been running the show at Hawaii Five-0 and Lost for the last 7+ years.
While usually held every other month at NextDoor, Hallowbaloo goers get a special edition of Showdown. The theme will be tied to Hallowbaloo (though due to the time limit on production, we can't tell you what it is now), and the films will be screened on the street as part of the festival. And for free! Just like the usual Showdowns, there'll be an MC and prizes awarded to winning film-makers. Expect the unexpected as budding artists in the local film industry take up the challenge of outshining their peers, impressing industry guests and sending you home with a laugh, scare or aberration (or all of the above) that you'll never forget.
