Giinko Marischino
Hallowbaloo Street Festival:

FREE Show!!
Pauahi Street (alongside the Arts at Marks Garage) - 9:10pm
This performance art dance troupe has a name that is as unusual as its premise. Anyone familiar with local drag celebrity Cocoa Chandelier should flock to see what the drag-butoh-modern dance collective is all about. "Giinko Marischino is a nut and a bunch of cherries," says Ms. Chandelier of herself and the other members of the ensemble. That is to say - a fruity basket full of experimental fun.
An offshoot of the local dance company IONA, Giinko Marischino's work is edgy and avant-garde. Using the collaborative process as a form of participatory art-making, the troupe also includes installation, comedy, video and music in its performances. At Hallowbaloo, the troupe will deliver one of its signature performance pieces, "Butoh Ballet vs. The Black Bird," a sinister take on the tale of The Black Swan.
Not content with the superficial impact of stand-alone visuals, Giinko Marischino focuses on the concept of 'ohana when scripting performances. Respect for and recognition of both the group unit and the individual who lies within is a central theme and a hallmark of the troupe's long-running success.
Top your Hallowbaloo sundae with a Giinko Marischino cherry served up by Ms. Chandelier and friends.
