Knowing Steven Kanemoto's initials and understanding how they translate into his DJ name is an indication of the way DJ ESKAE likes to playfully manipulate everything from words to music. As a teenager, ESKAE's love for music drove him to sneak out of his house on a regular basis to clubs such as Euphoria and After Dark. His love for music and mischief is no less today than it was back then.
A masterful engineer of social situations, ESKAE cleverly mixes genres that all fall under the category of fun. While his DJ family Nocturnal Sound Krew is rooted in hip-hop and turntablism, ESKAE can also fluidly play dancehall, electro rock, classic funk, soul and more - all in the same night. Recently, he showed additional range working with Merlo Podlewski (the perennial bass player in Jack Johnson's band) who flew ESKAE to Japan for a series of shows at which ESKAE was the sole DJ laying down backing tracks for Merlo's rap performances.
