For DJ Monkey, it all started in the late ’80s when as just a youngin, he attended San Francisco’s Das Klub and was greeted by post-wave electronic pop, industrio-goth, Miami bass, proto-house and disco revival. Then in the 90’s, after falling in love with rave music and later jungle, he couldn’t resist the urge any longer and started DJing himself. Since moving to Honolulu in 2001, DJ Monkey has proven his ability to play diverse musical ranges. Holding it down at events ranging from strictly drum ‘n’ bass to indie rock to classic rock to R&B/funk - sometimes a blend of all of the above. DJ Monkey currently has a residency at Slow & Low Dubstep on second Saturdays at Lotus and is often a guest DJ at ‘Subphonix’ at Mercury Bar on First Fridays — one of Honolulu’s longest-running drum ‘n’ bass nights.
